The National Center for Infectious Diseases (NCID) has successfully and promptly responded to an imported case of typhoid fever in Armenia. Recently, a 23-year-old patient was hospitalized at NCID after returning to Armenia and presenting with prolonged high fever, dizziness, and altered consciousness. The patient was admitted on the 8th day of illness with intoxication syndrome, hallucinations, and severe weakness. Laboratory tests revealed thrombocytopenia and later hepatosplenomegaly. Tests for malaria, brucellosis, and hemorrhagic fevers were all negative. On the third day of hospitalization, thanks to the expertise of NCID’s microbiologist, Salmonella typhi was identified through blood hemoculture, sterility testing, and stool culture, confirming the diagnosis of typhoid fever. Through the joint work of NCID’s multidisciplinary team, targeted treatment was provided, and the patient was discharged in full clinical recovery. This case once again highlights: NCID’s readiness to manage imported and complex infectious diseases, Its strong laboratory and clinical capacities, Its vigilance and rapid response to global health threats. NCID remains committed to contributing to the infectious disease security of the country.
