HIV/AIDS Situation in the Republic of Armenia
As of March 31, 2026
Between 1988 and March 31, 2026, among citizens of the Republic of Armenia:
- HIV infection: 6,735 cases, of which 4,717 were male (70%) and 2,018 female (30%)
- AIDS: 2,999 cases, of which 2,226 were male (74%) and 773 female (26%)
- Deaths: 1,515 cases, of which 1,205 were male (80%) and 310 female (20%)
- Children (0–14 years): 90 HIV cases, 47 AIDS cases, 12 deaths
- People living with HIV: 5,221
- People receiving ART: 4,250
Modes of transmission:
- Heterosexual: 76.2%
- Injecting drug use: 13.5%
- Homosexual: 7.5%
- Mother-to-child: 1.2%
- Blood transfusion: 0.1%
- Unknown: 1.6%

In 2026:
- HIV infection: 110 cases, of which 74 were male (67%) and 36 female (33%)
- AIDS: 27 cases, of which 14 were male (52%) and 13 female (48%)
- Deaths: 32 cases, of which 22 were male (69%) and 10 female (31%)
- Children (0–14 years): no cases were reported
Modes of transmission of new cases in 2026:
In 2026, the predominant mode of transmission among newly registered HIV cases was heterosexual contact, accounting for 89.1%, followed by homosexual contact at 7.3%, and injecting drug use at 3.6%.
HIV prevention programs in 2026:
- Mother-to-child transmission prevention – 11 citizens
- Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) – 60 citizens
- Post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) – 62 citizens
Foreign citizens:
- Between 1988 and March 31, 2026, HIV infection: 506 cases, of which 386 were male (76%) and 120 female (24%)
- Between 1988 and March 31, 2026, AIDS: 124 cases, of which 89 were male (72%) and 35 female (28%)
